Comeback des Jahres: Holger Badstuber
Almost two years ago, Bayern star Holger Badstuber (25) tore the cruciate ligament. Against Wolfsburg he celebrated his Bundesliga comeback.
Two days before the match against VfL Wolfsburg Holger Badstuber had said, “it is of secondary importance whether I play from the beginning or not. I'm happy just that I'm part of the team again." But after regular 90 minutes in the Cup against Preußen Münster coach Pep Guardiola ordered him to kick off the Bundesliga in the starting lineup. Finally back in Bundesliga after 629 days! The colleagues, coach and sporting director were impressed. “Fantastic" said Matthias Sammer. Badstuber took power, but did not surprise him. “What he played, I see every day in training.” Strong in the head, with one or another good ball in the tip, the center-back was the only goal of Ivica Olic a little too far away, do not bother key. Overall, however, he showed a benefit to which you can build. Badstuber even looked for the game in the cabin once a quiet place, “At the moment to enjoy.” He then took questions from kicker.
Mr. Badstuber, the first Bundesliga game after 629 days. How was it?
I been waiting long for the moment to be back. It was very exciting, but I'm very happy.
As you walked to warm up on the field, you looked in the sky and raised your arms. What was going on?
I wanted to soak up the atmosphere even better. This bubbling when you enter into the stadium. I wanted to enjoy the feeling. There were 1000 stimuli pouring on me, which was nice.
How long did it take until you were in the game?
It was already relatively quickly, but of course that was an incredible feeling to stand there on the court. The fans cheering you on, applaud you, cheer on. This is a great thing and you’ll get back with what hangs in a game.
Have kickoff at the moment when the referee, thinking of something in particular?
No, it rained so much on me. Then there was also the tribute to our world champions, because then you’re standing on the grass, look around you and know that it starts off. I was relieved when the whistle came. It was a beautiful moment and I could enjoy it, but now I'm also glad it’s over.
You were immediately in the game and won two head duels.
This has given security, not only me, but I also hope the team. Nevertheless, I still have to improve a lot.
What you need to improve for?
Much. I'm on the right track. But I can not even be there, where I would see myself. I need to be patient. But of course I’ll give everything on me, and then further progress will be shown in the near future.
Is not there a danger that they unnecessarily continues with new targets under pressure?
But goals one happens to have. I know that I’m playing in a great team where I can improve myself every day. And if I can do it, there comes something back. That needs attention. Then suddenly comes a step that you still have not previously realized, and you realize: Wow, I'm back a little further. There is now what happens. That was in the last two or three weeks. Even against Wolfsburg I made another step. Such games bring a tremendous amount of these movements, positional play, everything.
Have you gotten used to, as coach Pep Guardiola tries to influence from the outside?
He is the coach. If it should be no commands, then he would not be the coach. This is a good thing. He just wants to help us, because he sees things from the outside better than we do on the field.
He expects a lot of flexibility.
You have to always be on the head, but that’s part of football to. If you can respond well and quickly, you often do easier.
What are your ambitions for the national team?
Clearly this is a goal for me. I want to draw attention by power on me and then be recalled to the national team. That’s a big goal of mine, but I do not decide and I am well advised to simply keep going my way to go to work - and then everything comes gradually.
